Manor Court Community Primary School in the community

There has been a school on the site of Manor Court Community Primary School for over one hundred years and we have a varied and rich history.  We are located centrally to Chard, in a prime position, next to the large Parish Church of St Mary's.

As a school we take immense pride in being a community school and since April 2017 have been extremely outward facing.  We know that an important part of our whole school mission is to be 'a school in the centre of all that is Chard', and this alongside our ASPIRE values and the belief that we should 'care, learn and achieve together' motivates us to involve our whole school community in as much as we can in the wider community.

We encourage, through our curriculum and enrichment offers, our children to be exemplary local citizens and residents of Chard.

We have links and relationships with a number of local organisations and charities and enrich their work, as they enrich the education that we provide for our children.  These links include:

  • The local religious communities.
  • Chard town council.
  • The Rotary Club.
  • The many different ethnic communities.
  • The local residential homes.
  • The local sporting clubs.
  • A number of local charities.
  • We are an emergency food hub for the local food bank - The Lords Larder.
  • During the Winter of 2022-2023 we took the lead locally and opened the first warm space in Chard.  Mr Talmage spoke about the importance of this work nationally on BBC Radio 4.
  • Local published authors such as Emma Carroll.
  • Local published poets such as Clive Saunders.
  • The local business community and employers, including Numatics International - the maker of the well known Henry vacuum cleaner range.
