Bumblebees

Bumblebee Class

Miss Bagnall, Mrs Lane and Miss Scriven

Bumblebees will be taught by Miss Bagnall and supported by Mrs Lane and Miss Scriven. We are all very much looking forward to helping you along your learning journey and hearing all about your summer adventures!

In Bumblebees class, we will work hard, develop friendships, and be excited to learn. This will be done through always showing exceptional learning behaviours, forming positive relationships and friendships with each other, and showing respect and support to others. To help with the transition from EYFS to Year 1, learning will continue to be done using the carousel system, adapting to their needs as they settle into a more formal way of learning.

In English, children will continue to have daily phonics sessions to support them in their reading, writing, and spelling. They will continue to practise and develop neat letter formation. Throughout our English lessons we will explore a range of writing genres, starting with the high-quality text, ‘Snow White’. Children will be taught to write narratives, letters, character descriptions and much more! Bumblebees will be taught the Year 1 grammar objectives, including punctuating sentences and joining clauses using ‘ and’. We will also focus on spelling rules and plurals. Guided reading sessions will allow children opportunities to develop and discuss their own understandings of different texts.

In Maths lessons, we will focus on number and place value. Bumblebees will learn to count, read and write numbers in both numerals and words. We will continue to build on their knowledge of addition, subtraction and interpreting mathematical statements. There will be regular practise of counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s to support the children with their timetables in Year 2.

In Science, this term, our topic will be Animals including Humans. Children will learn to identify and name a variety of common animals and compare their structures. We will learn about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and how we can group animals into these categories. We will look at humans and learn to name the different body parts and the five senses.

Geography will take place in the first half term, and we will be looking at the local area. Children will also have history, RE, PSHE, DT, art, computing and music lessons throughout the term. PE for Bumblebees will take place on a Wednesday.

I am looking forward to seeing you all again and working with Bumblebees this year! If you need to contact myself or any of the team, please email the school office.
